2013 Tax Deadlines for 2012 Income Taxes

Well it’s that time of year again folks. Yep, it’s tax time! Our favorite time of the year. Not. But unfortunately all have to do it. So have you got your taxes in order for the 2012 tax year yet?
Well if not, be sure to get your individual federal income taxes or extension filed by April 15th, 2013 and you state tax returns mailed in by then as well, just to be safe.
The majority of people will be using e-file this year, but you can mail in your tax returns too, as long as they are post marked by the day they are due. Both methods are free for most individuals. The standard tax forms can be found online or at your local library or post office. Be sure to fill out the appropriate 1040 tax form and any related tax forms for your particular situation.
2013 Tax Deadlines for the 2012 Tax Year
    April 15, 2013 – Most State Individual Income Taxes Due
    April 15, 2013 – Federal Individual Tax Return Due
    April 15, 2013 – Extension Requests for Individual Tax Return Due
    October 15, 2013 – Extended Individual Tax Returns Due
April 15, 2013 – Most State Individual Income Taxes Due
Not all states collect a state income tax, so you may not have to file a state income tax return depending on which states you worked in 2012. Currently these states do not collect state income tax, and here’s a list of the ones the do with their correlating calendar due dates.
April 15, 2013 – Federal Individual Tax Returns Due
Be sure to e-file or postmark your individual tax returns by midnight April 15, 2013. That includes the 1040 tax form and any additional forms required for your filing status.
Typically the tax return filing deadline for individuals is on April 15 of each year; however, the IRS may change it if it falls on a weekend, or a holiday is recognized.
April 15, 2013 – Extension Requests for Individual Tax Returns Due
Last day to file your request for an extension using an extension request form in order to push your tax filing deadline out until October 15, 2013. Even with a tax extension, tax penalties may still apply. Be sure to consult your tax professional for detailed filing deadlines and penalty information.
